Middle School Humanities Teacher

The Senesh School, a progressive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring an eighth grade humanities teacher to join our 2025-26 faculty. The Humanities program includes English and Social Studies instruction in an interdisciplinary model. Successful applicants will be creative, nurturing, and reflective educators who are interested in the life of the school outside of their classroom. Competitive salary and benefits. The salary for this position is $70,000-80,000 commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Teaching English and Social Studies
  • Differentiating instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Helping students to develop social and emotional competencies
  • Keeping accurate documentation of curriculum and student progress
  • Working collaboratively with the grade-level team members on community programs and student support.
  • Acting as an advisory and leading a clubs/elective
  • Attending a weekly faculty meeting, department meeting, and other professional development opportunities
  • Participating in an overnight trip
  • Building partnerships with parents to support student progress

Candidates will possess the following qualifications and dispositions towards education:

  • MA degree in education
  • Three or more years experience working as a lead teacher in a middle school
  • A “whole child” approach to teaching and learning that focuses on growth in academic, social, and emotional domains
  • A progressive approach to education, including differentiating instruction
  • Cultural competency and a commitment to diversity and belonging
  • Collegial and collaborative approach to being part of a team of educators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
