Middle School Hebrew Teacher Position Open for Fall 2025

Hannah Senesh Community Day School, an open and inclusive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring a middle school Hebrew teacher for the 2025-26 school year. Our Hebrew program is based on the Proficiency Approach, in which students learn through engagement with Israeli stories, authentic Hebrew texts and materials, songs, games, and celebrations while teaching critical skills related to the four strands of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Hebrew language lives in our classrooms, is woven into the fabric of our school program, and is purposeful and engaging. Applicants should be creative, thoughtful, and reflective educators who value working in a progressive school setting. Competitive salary and benefits; $70-$80,000 commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching Hebrew classes using the Bishvil Ha-Ivrit program
  • Incorporating Hebrew language into the daily life of the school through special programs
  • Overseeing student growth through student assessments and teacher reports
  • Differentiating instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Developing a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Working collaboratively with grade-level team members on programs and supporting students
  • Building partnerships with parents to support student progress
  • Acting as a middle school advisor

Qualifications include:

  • Native fluency in Hebrew
  • Master’s degree in education or a Hebrew-related field
  • Experience teaching Hebrew using the proficiency approach and ACTFL guidelines
  • An ability to incorporate technology as a tool to promote language learning
  • A “whole child” approach to teaching and learning that focuses on growth in academic, social, and emotional domains
  • An openness to a diversity of Jewish thought and practice
