5th & 6th Grade Judaic Studies Teacher (Paternity Leave Coverage)
Hannah Senesh Community Day School, an open and inclusive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring a paternity leave teacher for fifth and sixth grade Judaics from late August through December 2025. The Judaics department fosters a personal and individualized connection to Judaism through the study of Biblical and Rabbinic texts, daily prayer experiences, modern Israeli and Jewish history and a focus upon Jewish values and community service. We draw upon the ancient texts and teachings of our people as a source of wisdom and meaning for students’ own lives. Our program and curriculum celebrates the great diversity of the modern Jewish people. Successful applicants will be creative, passionate, and reflective educators who value working in a progressive school setting. Salary range is $28-$32,000; commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching tefila, Chumash, Jewish holidays and Israel through a hands on, inquiry, and values based approach
- Overseeing student growth through student assessments and teacher reports
- Differentiating instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs of learners
- Developing a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Working collaboratively with grade-level team members on programs and supporting students
- Building partnerships with parents to support student progress
- Acting as a middle school advisor
Qualifications include:
- MA degree in education orJewish Studies
- Three or more years experience working as a lead teacher in an elementary setting
- A “whole child” approach to teaching and learning that focuses on growth in academic, social and emotional domains
- A progressive approach to education, including differentiated instruction
- An openness to a diversity of Jewish thought and practice
