Welcome to First Grade!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to first grade! The upcoming year will be filled with many new and exciting adventures. We are looking forward to getting to know you and your children. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4th.

Please send your child with the following things:

  • A labeled pre-lunch snack
  • Lunch (unless your child is receiving school lunch)
  • A labeled water bottle
  • A change of clothing that will remain in his/her cubby
  • A sweater or sweatshirt incase the air conditioning is too chilly

We are responsible for the dismissal of your children and will be maintaining the bus and dismissal lists for your child’s class. Please send all communication regarding dismissal, bus and pick-up, directly to rheus@hannasenesh.org, ielmkies@hannahsenesh.org, and jdweck@hannahsenesh.org the day before. For last-minute and urgent changes, please send communication by 12:00 pm on the day of in order to receive a confirmation email from the teachers. Teachers will be checking email at this time and creating the day’s final dismissal list. We appreciate your mindfulness, as we are not always on email throughout the day. Thank you for your help and partnership.

We wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how birthday parties are celebrated in first grade.  We will contact you a few weeks before your child’s birthday. If your child’s birthday is on a school day, please assume that is the date that we will celebrate his/her birthday and we will confirm this with you prior to the date.  If your child’s birthday is on a weekend or a holiday, we will find a date as close to his/her birthday as possible. If you have a child with a summer birthday (July/August), don’t worry – we haven’t forgotten about them! We will contact you before his/her half birthday and ask if he/she would like to celebrate his/her half birthday with us in first grade.

In first grade, we celebrate birthdays by having a family member of the birthday boy or girl read a 10-15 minute read-aloud (you are welcome to borrow a book from our classroom or bring one in from home).  We then wish birthday wishes and sing birthday songs. After the birthday songs, families bring in a snack – this can be fruit, cake, cupcakes, cookies – whatever your birthday boy or girl wants! We request that the items be nut free, store bought, and Kosher.

Also, please note that the first graders have PE on Tuesdays and Fridays. Sneakers must be worn during PE class.

If you have any questions please email us.
