Welcome to 5th Grade!

We on the 5th Grade Team hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. We would like to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about what we are doing in each of our classes:

HUMANITIES: Welcome! My name is Tony Buonomo, and I am the new 5th Grade Humanities teacher here at Hannah Senesh. I am coming from Explore Charter School in Flatbush, where I spent the 2016-2017 school year teaching special education. Before that, I lived outside Boston and taught English Language Arts at a high school for students with special needs. I am looking forward to this school year, during which we will be exploring different kinds of writing, reading fascinating novels, and taking deep dives into the rich histories of India and China. I am so excited to be at Senesh, and I cannot wait to be your teacher!

JUDAIC STUDIESMy name is Laura Marder Mark. I am the 5th and 6th grade Judaics and Tefillah teacher. I live in Brooklyn and have been teaching at Hannah Senesh for 4 years.  Mindfulness and meditation are a huge part of my life and I try to infuse them into my lessons and classroom environment. This summer I spent two weeks in Israel at a Pardes teacher curriculum workshop and I can’t wait to share some exciting material with my students. I look forward to learning Chumash and Yahadut with your children. This will be an exciting year of exploring the Joseph stories, experiencing the Aliyot to Pre-1948 Israel and a textual look at the Holidays.

MATH: Welcome back, Class of 2021!  I am so excited to be teaching your class again this year.  We will spend a couple of days reviewing classroom procedures and expectations and then jump right into the math. To help you excel with the challenges to come this year, it would be helpful if you would take a few minutes to set up a workspace.  Here are my guidelines for setting up a workspace.

  SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR AT-HOME WORKSPACE

  • Your backpack, planner and pencil pouch should be within arm’s reach.
  • Put away all materials when finished.
  • Store your materials near your workspace. If you work in different locations, you may want to keep your materials in a tote bag.
  • It is great to have a pair of ear-plugs in your pencil pouch in case it gets noisy where you are working. You may also find that listening to instrumental music helps block out distractions.
MATH SUPPLIES TO HAVE AT HOME
  • Pencils
  • Sharpener
  • Ruler
  • Calculator
  • Eraser
  • Protractor
  • Clock, watch, or timer
  • Colored pencils
  • Stapler & staples
  • Loose-leaf hole-punched lined notebook paper

Can’t wait to see you all!

Hello, Hannah Senesh Community! My name is Kelly Cho; I am the 5th and 7th mathematics maternity leave substitute for Geneva, and will be teaching full time starting after Rosh Hashanah. I am very excited to be here and be part of the community!

HEBREW: I hope you all had a restful, exciting, and invigorating summer. My Name is Yehuda Fishhaut, and I am very happy to be your child’s Hebrew teacher this year. For those of you who are new to Senesh, I welcome you, and I look forward to meeting you. For those of you returning welcome back! I believe this year will be a fabulous and productive year!
