Welcome Back! Week of 1/2

Hello 5th Grade Families! We hope you had a wonderful break, and a safe and warm snow day! We’ve had a short and busy week; please enjoy the updates from 5th grade teachers below, and have a good weekend!

HUMANITIES: The India Pavilion is almost here! We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, and we can’t wait to celebrate the students’ hard work with their families. We have spent much of this week making final preparations for the Pavilion, and have set expectations and schedules for the day itself. We also have taken some time to reflect on the past semester and the upcoming one, and each student has set a SMART goal for themselves to achieve during the next 6 months. Happy New Year, and Shabbat Shalom!-Tony

MATH:

Fifth graders are continuing the fraction unit. During the first short week after winter break, we multiplied fractions and whole numbers and found fraction of a whole number. The second semester’s math syllabus was given out with small changes from the first semester. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns.-Kelly
JUDAICS:
By Eva:
“This week was really fun, we didn’t have that many classes, but when we did it was really fun. We learned about the First Aliyah in 1882 and we are pretending to be Russian Jews during that time. It was exciting to get assigned our “families” and have new names. We have to stick together and we experienced “pogroms” (attacks on the Jews by the Russians) and had to work together to help each other when something happened. We have been having “town meetings” and we keep learning more bad news and we are hoping on Monday we will get the good news that we can move to the Land of Israel. Even though we are nervous because we hear that at this time Israel is very swampy and hard to live in. We met in a Zionist group called “Hovevi Zion” that taught us some farming techniques and Hebrew words that we can use when we move.
Shabbat Shalom”
HEBREW: This week the fifth grade read short stories and practiced identifying verbs in past tense and conjugating sentences to present tense. Shabbat shalom-Yehuda
