Welcome Back / ברוכים הבאים

Humanities:

Hi everybody.  I am tremendously excited to being joining the Hannah Senesh Community this year and am truly looking forward to teaching this year’s eighth grade class! It is my mission to ensure that this year’s Humanities classes will be exciting, challenging, and meaningful for all students.

This year in Humanities, we will be studying U.S. History, ranging from colonial beginnings to the beginning of the Cold War. Additionally, we will read many wonderful works of literature, many of which align with our History curriculum. We will also be doing a LOT of writing, in a variety of different genres including literary analysis, argument essay, creative writing, personal narratives, and persuasive speeches. Throughout the year, we will be exploring many themes, including friendship, love, family dynamics, social class, persecution, strength, innocence, and perseverance. As a class, we will spend time considering how these themes shape our own lives, both as individuals and as members of society.

Students, please make sure you have completed reading your summer reading book, The Chosen by Chaim Potok, by Thursday, September 7th.  You will need to bring in your copy of the book by then so that we can start discussing it together as a class.

I look forward to working together throughout the year. Please feel free to reach out to me by email at mgentile@hannahsenesh.org.

Judaic Studies:

I am delighted that I get to spend another year with this amazing group. I hope it will be an engaging, challenging, and creative year of learning together.

In eighth grade we finish the Torah and explore ideas about its authorship; read excerpts from ספר יהושע/the book of Joshua and learn about intertextuality (the way stories in later books of the Bible echo earlier Torah stories); and encounter the distressing world of ספר שופטים/the book of Judges. Students will look at ethical dilemmas in Talmud and other rabbinic texts, and will get a chance to develop and articulate their thinking through discussion, art projects, technology, and reflective writing.

Please be in touch with questions, concerns, and ideas at jlissy@hannahsenesh.org

Hello everyone and I am so excited to join the Hannah Senesh community as your Middle School science teacher. I have been involved with middle school science for over a decade. I cannot wait to extend my passion for an array of science topics with your child as we explore hands on projects and activities. I hope everyone had a great summer. I am looking forward with great anticipation to a fabulous year of hands on learning in science. If you have questions concerning our class or your child, please do not hesitate to contact me at mnoll@hannahsenesh.org.

Hebrew:

Bruchim HaBaym Le Ivrit- Welcome to a year of Hebrew!
My name is Andreea Adereth and this is my 9th year teaching Hebrew in the Middle School at Hannah Senesh. Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language is my passion!
I look forward to guiding the children on an exciting journey in which they will discover the beauty of speaking a second language and will be able to communicate with Israelis and with Hebrew speakers from the entire world. In addition to teaching Hebrew, I strive to instill in my students a lifelong love for learning and a real connection to Israel, to its people, language, and culture.
I can always be reached at aadereth@hannahsenesh.org
Can not wait to meet everyone soon!
