Dear parents,

This week in advisory we started a conversation about being wise media consumers. We discussed the various types of categories that news segments belong to.

This week the students have taken the standardized AVANT test.  This will enable us to analyze their progress over the last tests.

Humanities

Literature and Writing: This week, students completed reading Night.  We looked pieces of art, including classical music, poetry, and paintings and discussed their connections to the text.  Next week, students will run a Socratic seminar to discuss the major themes of the book, and create their own piece of art work to memorialize one thing they learned from reading Night. Students will also read about what Wiesel and other survivors of the Holocaust feel is the responsibility of future generations to those who were victimized in the concentration camps.

History: Students started work in their bookclubs and continue to work on their individual research projects.  Students handed in a bibliography which at least three sources for their research projects, one a scholarly article or book.  Students were also asked to submit their graduation speeches today.  Next week, students will work with Jen and myself to practice their graduation speeches.  They will also continue to meet in bookclubs and work on their individual research projects.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend To All,

Michael

Judaic Studies

8th graders are using all they have learned about studying text to teach their classmates. Students chose a story from Tanach that interested them. Each 8th grader wrote a lesson plan and used sefaria.org to create a worksheet. Next week, the 8th graders will take turns teaching each other.

Shabbat shalom,

8th Grade continued their STEAM Bridge Project within their science and math classes. This week we focused on blueprints and using computer software to discovery if these designs would physical produce a functional bridge. Next they created a budget of the construction of their bridge. They have to purchase materials from the supplier and now a few groups have already started the final stage of this STEAM project, the construction of their bridges. We are excited to see these bridges grow in the next two weeks.

Enjoy the long weekend,

Mike and Craig
