Week 20: Monday, January 22nd – Friday, January 26th

Humanities:

Literature and Writing: This week, students continued their work translating and analyzing Act II of Othello.  At the end of the week, students were asked to explain how Shakespeare uses dramatic irony to develop a theme on the relationship between appearance and reality.

History:  In History, students prepared for our field trip this coming Monday to the Jewish Museum as we kickoff this year’s collaboration with them.  Students previewed artworks from the museum’s permanent collection and the exhibition entitled Veiled Meanings: Fashioning Jewish Dress.  Students will learn how artists and craftspeople use motifs in their work and will express their own personal connections to the Jewish Diaspora through art.

Enjoy the weekend,

Michael

Judaic Studies:

The play was amazing! It was such a joy to see the 8th graders work hard, support each other, and take risks on stage.

It was also a joy to get to teach them again! We completed our study of chapter 2 in the Book of Joshua. Students will begin working on their final project, which asks them to pretend to be the spies, and to make a map of Jericho for Yehoshua.

Looking forward to getting back to learning together!

Shabbat shalom,

Jessica

Musical:

Wednesday and Thursday night were a rousing success!  All the 8th graders’ hard work, dedication and talent were on full display and we could not be more proud of them.  Thank you all for coming out to show your support and we hope you had as much fun watching the show as the students did performing for you.  Below are some candid shots taken during the final dress rehearsal on Wednesday.

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend,

The 8th Grade Team
