Hebrew:

Dear parents,

This week HaKbatza Aleph practiced using STAMI sentences verbally and in writing. In addition, we practiced switching from infinitive to present tense.

HaKbatza Bet learned new vocabulary related to using internet, phones and social media and they practiced using the new vocabulary verbally and in writing.
I wish everyone Hag Hanukah Sameach and Shabbat Shalom,

Andreea

Heritage:

Humanities:

Literature and Writing:

This week, students worked to complete their final project on The Crucible.  They are creating a multimedia project that compares another “witchhunt” from the recent past to the events that occurred in the Crucible.  Final presentations will be given next week.  Also, students received peer edits on their Columbus papers then self-edited and revised them.  They will complete their final drafts next week.

History:

In History, we continued our study of the American Revolution.  Loyalists and patriots debated in colonial town hall meetings about the Boston Massacre, The Tea Act, Boston Tea Party, Intolerable Acts and the Battle at Lexington and Concord.  Next week, we will learn about the Declaration of Independence and the start of the war.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend,

Michael

Judaic Studies:

This week, students completed learning a significant chunk of Talmud. They howed great perseverance and an appetite for challenge. After learning about the rules for where you are supposed to place your Chanuka candle — ideally, outside your house, but if necessary, behind a window or just on your table — the 8th graders reflected on a metaphorical reading of these laws. How “out” are we about our Jewish identities? Is our “light on” outside of our house? Is it behind a window, but visible to the outside? Or on our table, hidden from the outside world? 8th graders had beautiful and perceptive ideas to share.

On a more prosaic level, we will have a Talmud vocabulary and concepts quiz on Tuesday.

Shabbat shalom and Chag Sameach!

Jessica

Science:

Students this week did an experiment in order to discovery the different levels of sugar within ten food samples. They made hypotheses and used experimental data to support or not support their hypotheses. Next we conducted our first cooking chemistry challenge that focused on proportions. They had three tries to produce a well balanced lemonade. They needed to  guess the proportions of water, lemon extract, and sugar. We have an enjoyable time discovering this concept by sampling some interesting mixtures. We will continue this cooking chemistry unit next week.
