Week 1: Tuesday, September 5th – Friday, September 8th
Dear Eighth Grade Parents:
The first week of school was a big success! Check out the summaries below to learn what your students were up to this week:
Judaic Studies
Students began the year by reflecting on their Jewish identity. What aspects of Judaism do they feel most connected to? Students made collages to answer this question through graphic design.
Why did we begin the year with this activity? As our eighth graders move closer towards being independent and autonomous adults, it is valuable for them to become conscious decision-makers about their Jewish identity.
Hebrew:
Dear Parents,
This has been a short but exciting week! The children returned to school on Tuesday full of enthusiasm and right away we started discussing our goals and our curriculum for the year. Next, the students started reviewing what they did over the summer using various games. On Thursday we started our review unit which is focused on transitioning from summer to school. I cannot tell you enough how happy I am to be teaching this class this year!
I wish everyone a wonderful weekend,
Andreea

Math:
Science:
With the excitement of your children, science class has started a magical journey of discovery. We used an interactive science software to explore the building of atoms. This allowed everyone to discovery the basic parts of an atom and be in control of their own learning experience. I cannot wait to continue these types hands on explorations throughout of science year.
Humanities:
This week in Humanities we started to discuss our summer reading book, The Chosen by Chaim Potok. We discussed Potok’s background and learned more about the Hasidic communities that live in the United States to give us context for the novel. In History, we reviewed how to use maps, charts, graphs, and timelines to interpret events and gather information.
Next week, we will discuss the plot and main characters of The Chosen in order to start planing and drafting our first essay of the year. It was a wonderful start to the year and and I look forward to more exciting weeks like this as the year progresses.
Have a restful weekend,
Michael
Advisory:
This week in advisory was all about catching up and preparing for the school year. Students shared what they did this summer by playing two truths and a lie. We also organized our lockers, checked over our schedules and prepared our supplies and materials for the year. Finally, students divided into small groups to prepare for their performance at the upcoming Tekes next Friday.
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and a Shabbat Shalom!
