September 5-8

Humanities

The 7th grade classes spent time speaking, listening, reading, and writing about our school’s values and the necessity of an academically-productive classroom environment.

I’m extremely excited about our upcoming vocabulary units, as well as the 7th grade social action project.

I LOVE new words and seeing students learn them.

The 7th grade social action project centers around literacy. We wrote about why literacy is a social justice issue. Throughout the year, we’ll be continuing to investigate the importance of early childhood literacy.

Math

The seventh grade began the year reviewing classroom procedures in order to help them be throughout the year. Students are expected to complete their homework by the next school day when assigned and are given opportunities to correct their mistakes. It is important to be organized, keep track of their work, and most importantly, enjoy learning!

We have begun our first unit, Factors and Multiples, and the first homework assignment that was assigned on Thursday will be corrected on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Hebrew
Wow, what a week!
Short but full of positive energy.
It was great to see the kids after a long summer break and to meet all the new students. This week the students received their Hebrew materials (notebooks, folders) and we went over the curriculum for the next month.
Looking forward to a wonderful year!

Judaic Studies

It is a joy to get to teach your children! The 7th graders are off to a strong start. I was so impressed by the thoughtful reflections they wrote for homework, and I am enjoying their insightful comments in class discussion. We began the week by reviewing expectations for the year, grading guidelines, and topics we will be covering. We then jumped right into our first unit: an investigation of Rosh haShana. What aspects of the holiday come from the Torah? Surprisingly few! So how did the Rosh haShana we know today come to be? Stay tuned!

Shabbat Shalom,

Science

It has only been two short days in science, however 7th grade came together to learn about design process. They successfully work well in random groups in order to create towers that can support a basketball. They kept improving their design in order to produce the tallest possible tower. We will continue to work on the design process next week.  Cannot wait to see what else is created from the minds of your children.
