Publishing Party Celebration and Preparing for Chanukkah
Science- Please read:
Next week in science we would like to make crystals with the students. They are very excited about the idea. Please send a clean glass jar that is heat resistant to school with your child. A jar that had food in it would be suitable such as: spaghetti sauce, pickles, jam, honey.
Publishing Party
Thank you for attending the second grade publishing party! The joy and excitement from both students and parents was radiating throughout the room. We are all so proud of what the second graders have worked towards and accomplished so far this year.
We spent this week in writing finishing up our persuasive writing pieces and illustrating our book covers. While the past few weeks focused on writing our introduction and our supporting reasons, this week was all about ending our writing on a persuasive note! We talked about the role of the conclusion, both as a way to briefly summarize the preceding essay and as a final opportunity to express your point to the reader. We worked on reading our essays emphatically in order to better convince our listeners. Lastly, we talked about what it means to be a good listener, and how important it is to respect the hard work our friends have put into their essays over the past few weeks.
Give your child a compliment for their perseverance!
6th Grade Buddies
We then shared our writing pieces with our 6th grade buddies, and they shared a virtual presentation on the Ipad. We ended our buddy time by playing different kinds of cards and board games, to celebrate all of the work completed.
Ask your child what the 6th graders presented!
Yahadut: Chanukkah
Ever since last week, when we celebrated Rosh Chodesh Kislev, the start of the current Jewish month, students have been so excited because they know Channukkah is coming up. We have been preparing for the holiday by reading the story in Hebrew and reviewing the names of foods and objects in Hebrew. In music class we’ve been learning the song “kad katan” for the upcoming Hebrew play. Here is a video of one of our first rehearsals, and you can see the dance is still a work in progress, but will no doubt be great in time for the play on Monday, the 18th.

Israel with Yuval
We started our trip along “Shvil Yisrael” from the very north of Israel. Yuval taught us about Har Chermon, a tall, snowy mountain, so we of course made snowmen, out of paper mache!
Art with Iviva:
Second graders are already thinking about Hanukkah and our roles in the upcoming play. We’ve begun making crowns for our performance, using our choice of media — markers, watercolor, colored pencils on paper.
