Nov 6th – Nov 10th

Judaic Studies

It was wonderful meeting with many of you during conferences. This week Bnai Yisrael began their journey to Eretz Yisrael! Through creative writing, 7th graders explored what Bnai Yisrael’s emotions and reactions must have been to learning they were finally on their way to the promised land. Students imagined Bnai Yisrael’s high hopes and excitement as they packed up their tents and began their journey.

We then thought about what it’s like in our own families when preparing to go on a big trip – the yelling, the forgetting things, the stressing out over being late, etc. Why is there often tension? Why is there sometimes a disconnect between what we hope a trip will be like, and what it actually is like? As we complete our first unit, which is all about setting up an ideal community, we will begin to engage with the lived reality of a community in action and under stress.

Humanities

This week, we have been examining a secondary source in addition to our main text book: Early Middle Ages by James Corrick. I love helping students navigate this more difficult text. We were able to investigate more nuanced explanations for the two-hundred year period following the fall of Rome.
