Mid January

Hello Fourth Grade Families!
We hope you had an uplifting and meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. We have now entered the Hebrew month of Shvat, the time when the weather starts to inch itself toward warmth and we celebrate the trees and plants that sustain us on Tu B’Shvat (this year on January 31). Fourth graders are hard at work in all of their classes, making good use of this stretch of uninterrupted school. A reminder to parents that spring after-school programming begins on January 29, so please let us know if there are any changes to your child’s dismissal schedule.
Shabbat Shalom! -The Fourth Grade Team
PEEK AT NEXT WEEK:
  • Wednesday, January 24-25 – Eighth Grade Musical, 6:00 pm
  • Upcoming Thursdays – Fourth Grade social action trips to Brooklyn Autism Center

HEBREW with Ilana:

This week the fourth grade continued to work on their activities and present it to the students. They experienced how to stand as a teacher in front of the class and speak and explain the activity in Hebrew. They had a lot of fun. Next week we will work on vocabulary and writing summery about their Yom Talmid.

Shabbat Shalom

JUDAIC STUDIES with Aliza:
This week in Yahadut, we continued learning the exciting story of the Age of Kings in Ancient Israel, specifically the story of David vs. Saul. Fourth graders are having fun examining these kings and their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the twists and turns of the dramatic story! Next week, we will work on a special project digging further into this tumultuous time in the history of Ancient Israel.
We are also very excited to begin learning how to read Torah! In the upcoming weeks, fourth graders are learning the various sounds (trope) of the Torah reading, and are signing up to read Torah in the Beit Midrash on Mondays and Thursdays. We hope you will stop by to see your children read! Shabbat Shalom!

GENERAL STUDIES with Miriam:
In social studies and writing, fourth graders are getting very close to publishing their informational essays. They have been working hard on adding the finishing touches and revising them to their final drafts. Next up: presentations! Math continues to be an exploration of fractions. This week, we learned about improper fractions and mixed numbers. We have just started converting them from one form to another. Next week, we will be doing this with much larger and more complicated values. We also had our first visit to the Brooklyn Autism Center! The purple had a very successful visit and introduction to the school. Next week, the red group will go. Looking forward to another year of partnership with the BAC!
