Math

7X started learning “Perimeters and Areas of Plane Figures.” In this unit, they will learn to solve problems involving perimeters and areas of squares, rectangles, and triangles, find the circumference and area of a circle, find the areas of parallelograms and trapezoids, and solve problems involving perimeters and areas of composite plane figures.

7Y received their Unit 12: Perimeters and Areas of Plane Figures test back and it should be signed and returned no later than Monday, April 9th. They started learning “Volumes and Surface Areas of Solids” this week and in this unit, they will learn to sketch prisms, use nets to visualize their surface areas, find the volumes and surface areas of prisms, convert between cm2 and m3, and between cm3 and m3, and solve word problems involving volumes and surface areas of composite solids of prisms.

Have a wonderful Passover break!

Hebrew

This week we finished learning our unit ” Only in Israel”.
As part of our unit we watched a classic Israeli movie called             ” Salach shabati” ( Star actor Chaim topol). The students got to see how the Kibbutznikim reacted to the new immigrants and the new immigrants struggles and conditions.

Have a beautiful Passover,

Yehuda

Science

Students this week started to explore energy sources and their first renewable energy source. This first source was the main focus of the last unit namely water. They discovered in order to produce power there must be something that is turning in order to generate a current. We started with building water turbines that use the falling of water to turn their paper cup wheel. With some problem solving they got their models to move using only water. After the break we will continue to explore these different power sources and how they affect the world.

Humanities

Students received our LAST week of spring vocabulary (week 10)! I’m excited to help them prepare for a cumulative vocabulary test on April 17th. I love watching them help one another study and challenge themselves with language. Students also continued reading The Diary of Anne Frank and analyzing meaningful passages from the text. I’m glad that our experience in DC next week at the Holocaust Museum will be informed with the ideas from this seminal text.

Judaic Studies

The 7th graders should be incredibly proud of the effort they put into planning and leading seders for the whole middle school. They worked together to prepare activities that would be meaningful and fun and made sure that their middle school classmates had a great time. Please be sure to ask them about it!

Wishing you meaningful and fun sedarim and a great Pesach,

Jessica
