Last Week of Second Grade
What a week! We had a wonderful last week of school, packed with visiting students, performances, and celebrations. We welcomed the new incoming students with a special game and breakfast, went to our sixth grade buddies Greek Symposium, saw the third grade New York play, and had our last trip to the Cobble Hill Health Center. We did a lot of reflecting this week on our year together and feel so lucky to have been a part of your child’s educational journey. We wish you all a wonderful summer!

Science
For the last week of science we read the book “Seeds, Seeds, Seeds”, and made bean picture frames that we put our end of the year science photos in. In honor of the cucumbers we grew, students prepared and enjoyed cucumber and dill salad. They also made edible soil cups complete with three different layers of soil, worms, rocks, and a carrot. Delicious!
Reading
We finished our reading group books- just in time! The second graders shared all about the books they have enjoyed reading this year, and ending reading groups by munching on fresh apples and doing small projects, like making their own hamsters or writing the symbols for braille after reading about Helen Keller. We hope the second graders continue to read and enjoy books over the summer!
Last Trip to Cobble Hill
Sam and Zelig performed a song and dance, Tae Kwan Do students did their forms, and the whole class performed the song and dance for Todah as well as made and read handwritten cards. It has been a great year of visits to the Cobble Hill Health Center, and we have seen real growth in the children’s comfort in interacting with seniors. We hope that this experience has helped build their empathy and social skills and our proud at how they participated in this mitzvah.
