Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We have had a great short week in Kindergarten! We began on Monday by celebrating Irit’s birthday and then visiting our 4th grade buddies at their Publishing Party!
In Math we have been continuing to learn about and practice the ideas of more than and fewer than for small numbers (0-10). We worked on simple word problems for addition and subtraction using words “adding together” or “taking away.”
In English Language Arts, we learned the letter Jj and the sound /j/ it makes (as in /jet/). We practiced forming upper and lowercase letters Jj using our Handwriting Without Tears books, wooden planks, play dough, and shaving cream. For letter J, we made cranberry jam and tried it on our ice cream.
In Writing, we are continuing to work on writing our “How To…” Books. We are excited to share these with all the parents at our Kindergarten Publishing Party on Friday, December 8th!
To celebrate Thanksgiving, we did a special art project with our fourth grade buddies where we got to trace our hands and write what we are thankful for!
In Hebrew/Judaics this week we practiced using the word Toda (Thank you) in order to express what we are thankful for. Some of the sentences the children formed were: “Toda al Ima” (thanks for mother), Toda al hamishpacha (Thanks for the family), Toda al Abba (thanks for father). We read and acted out the book “Ein Arayot Kaele” by Ami Rubinger. We also introduced the new Hebrew month of Kislev and our favorite holiday of Chanukah. We started learning the story of Chanukah.
