First Grade News: Week of January 22nd
We had so much fun on our field trip to the Jewish Children Museum!
The first graders learn about historical events throughout biblical times. Enjoy the pictures below!
First grade writers have been working hard on their information books and writing even more pages. We started writing chapter books and learned how to add a table of contents.
We learned some challenging sight words this week: how, do, she, their, and number. We practiced using these words in sentences. We continued to learn new reading strategies in our reading groups.
In Math we finished our unit on addition and subtraction with numbers 1 through 20. We started our unit on measurement. We measured things around the classroom and even measured our friends!
We started our mapping unit in Social Studies and learned the cardinal directions: North, South, East, and West and played four corners.
In the Hebrew classroom, we continued to work on our Hebrew dictionaries. We also started learning about Tu Bishvat(the birthday of the trees) and spent time learning Hebrew words related to the holiday. The first graders draw beautiful trees and wrote the parts of the tree all in Hebrew. We started to practice changing words from singular to plural tense using different parts of trees. We are looking forward learning more about Tu Bishvat next week!
In Yahadut, we learned a new prayer from the Amidah called mishan umivtach latzadikim. We spoke about what it means to be a righteous person. We also share about the good things that happened to us when we are doing good things.
In Parasha, we learned about Parashat Beshalach. This is when Pharaoh changes his mind about freeing the Israelites slaves and chases after them. The Sea of Reeds splits, the Israelites escape the Egyptians, and they celebrate their freedom. We spoke about what it must have felt like to feel free after having been slaves for so long.
