First Grade News: Week of February 12
We had a fun filled week in first grade. On Thursday we celebrated Rosh Chodesh Adar by wearing our pajamas to school!
First grade writers finished editing their teaching books this week. On Friday we had a classroom publishing party. First graders shared their books with each other and celebrated all of their hard work.
We learned about graphing this week. First graders learned how to record information using picture graphs, bar graphs, and tally charts. They worked in pairs to make their own graphs about their classmates. Some graphs include favorite olympic sport, how many siblings we have, and birthdays.
First grade scientists continued caring for our plants. They described their plant growth and drew detailed pictures. They also learned about different types of plants and made a terrarium!
In our Hebrew classroom this week we started learning about Purim. We read the story of Purim and got to look at a very small megilah that belongs to the first grade. Each first grader Started to make his/her own megilah and they can’t wait to share it with you. We also chose a character from the megilah (Esther, Mordechai, Haman, Achashverosh, vashti), draw their picture and described how they look and what they wearing in writing. We are looking forward to learning more about Purim next week!
In yahadut this week, we learned two new prayers from the Amidah. The first prayer does not have words. We spoke about how the Amidah is a time when we can have a private conversation with God and make our own wishes or prays. Each student drew a picture of a personal prayer they’d want to share with God and during tefilah we leave a minute for each first grader to say their own prayer. The second prayer is Shomeah Tefilah. In this prayer we ask God to listen to our prayers. We talked about what it means to be a good listener and the importance of listening.
Have a wonderful break!
