First Grade News

In writing, we started a new unit on book reviews. First graders recalled all the ways they know how to convince your reader and used this knowledge to share their opinions on books they have read. They watched videos of other students giving oral book reviews and practiced this skill as well.

In Social Studies, first graders explored the idea of recycling by making paper. First graders learned how paper is made out of trees and used the same process to make new paper out of paper scraps and water. They were so excited to bring their new papers home!

First grade mathematicians continued to practice using the vertical algorithm to add and subtract with regrouping. They also learned a new game in which they had to add or subtract on a trip to the zoo!

We continued our social action gardening with Anne! First graders love taking care of the trees and flowers outside of our school.

This week in Hebrew, we started learning about the shuk , the Israeli market and how to say fruits and vegetables in Hebrew. We also watched videos of different kinds of shuk in Israel. The first graders were amazed by all the different kinds of fruits and vegetables you can find in one place! The students wrote what they can find in the shuk using the plural form of fruits and vegetables. We also learned a new verb kone (to buy, masculine) and kona (to buy, feminine). We practiced using this new verb in our conversations and in writing.

Shabbat Shalom!
