First Grade: Happy Hanukkah!
We’ve had a busy and festive week in first grade! First graders have been busy rehearsing for the Hebrew playing, attending school wide candle lighting, and having special Hanukkah time with their 5th grade buddies. Our lower school director, Shelley, came to read the first graders a special Hanukkah book.
This week first graders focused on perfecting their lowercase handwriting. Students are expected to use lowercase and uppercase letters appropriately when writing.
In Math, first graders learned about ordinal numbers, practiced position words, and began exploring numbers 0 – 20. We noticed that when counting numbers greater than 10, it’s helpful to make groups of ten and then count on. We also played some Hannukah math games!
In Science, first graders listened to a read aloud about all the different kinds of clouds. They discussed how meteorologists forecast the weather.
In Hebrew, We had an exciting week! We kept practicing for the Chanukah Hebrew Play and the first graders can’t wait for their performance next Monday. We played with dreidels, sang Chanukah songs and read Chanukah stories. We had a very special week together!
In Parasha, we read about Parashat miketz. It is when Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dreams and Pharaoh makes him in charge of preparing for the seven years of famine. We spoke about how Joseph helped other people during a tough time, and thought about ways that we can help other people.
Shabbat Shalom!
