Judaic Studies

We completed our study of Chapter 11 of Bmidbar/Numbers. Students shared incredible answers to our final kushiya: what is the significance of Bnai Yisrael naming the spot where they are punished by God “קברות התאווה”/the Graves of Desire? Why would they want to bury the feeling of desire? Is getting rid of one’s desire a good thing?

Next week students will work on their final projects for this chapter. Today, they selected among several different choices, created their own rubrics, and began work.

Shabbat shalom,

Humanities

Students continued their exploration of narrative writing and short stories by reading “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Rule of Names.” Students brainstormed about their narrative writing and shared their writing with the narrative partners. We using the week before break as a study week for vocabulary – we’ll be drawing the words, acting out the words, reviewing the words, and having fun with the words!

In history, we are beginning to examine the factors that contributed to the decline of feudalism and the Middle Ages. We surveyed a number of secondary sources and practiced our listening comprehension skills.

Science

Students this week learned more about how water is filtered in water treatment plants. They also created a second version of their custom water filters, improving from their first design. Students were excited when the first drops came out of their filter. It was enjoyable to see the class take pride in their improved water filter devices.
