Hello Fourth Grade Families!
It’s hard to believe it’s already November, which means Parent-Teacher Conferences are around the corner! Please remember to sign up for a slot with our teachers as spaces fill up quickly.
We’re very excited in the fourth grade because our Living Museum event is coming up soon! Students have been working hard on their projects and getting ready to show them to you. We hope you will join us on November 20!

HEBREW with Ilana:

This week the 4th grade worked on writing sentences and short paragraph related to their birthday. They had a quiz on the vocabulary. They also worked on comprehension of a story and experienced reading the story and decide independently what vocabulary they need in order to understand it.

JUDAIC STUDIES with Aliza:
This week in Yahadut, we learned about the life of our school’s namesake, Hannah Senesh. We learned about her childhood in Hungary and about how the changing events of the world and the rise of anti-Semitism led her to reexamine her place in the world and make decisions that would change her life. We talked about discrimination and why it happens, and the complicated feelings that we might have when we hear about prejudice and discrimination today. Students made posters depicting entries from Hannah’s diary and letters she wrote to her family in preparation for next week’s Tekes.
In Chumash, students began learning the special Hebrew alphabet known as Rashi script. They completed worksheets comparing Rashi script with standard Hebrew script in preparation for reading and interpreting their first Rashi commentaries in the Chumash.
Shabbat Shalom!

GENERAL STUDIES with Miriam:
These fourth graders have really blown me away this week! In Current Events, they had two thoughtful and powerful discussions about the way images in news articles influence how readers feel about the people featured in the news story. They have been writing power houses this week. Increasing their independence, stamina and talents as writers each day. In math we expanded our study of long multiplication to include multiplying 5-digits by 2-digits. It was a bit tricky at first, but they soon felt strong on their own two feet. Perhaps the most wonderful moment of the week was when the 4th graders welcomed Jason into our class community. Jason is a student at the Brooklyn Autism Center who will be part of our math class and recess once a week. The class made him feel incredibly welcome and we are so glad he’s here!
