The unit test is scheduled for Monday, March 26th. 7Y this week finished and reviewed Unit 12: Perimeters and Areas of Plane Figures. The unit test is scheduled for Monday, March 26th. Judaic Studies Students invented incredible clocks to keep track of the different types of time mentioned in the first mishna: Mishna Berachot, Chapter 1, Mishna 1. As growing leaders of the school, 7th graders will be planning and running Passover seders for the entire middle school. Working in...

Math 7X this week solved simple linear inequalities, such as ax + b > c, compared the solutions of inequalities with different inequality signs such as x > 3 and x ≥ 3, and represented the solution of a linear inequality on a number line. The unit test is currently scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd. 7Y this week found the area of a parallelogram and trapezoid, and solved problems involving perimeters and areas of composite plane figures. The unit test is currently scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd. Judaic Studies Students are working on their project for our Mishna Brachot unit: finding interesting...

Advisory Wednesday’s advisory was amazing! To mourn/celebrate our lack of a snow day, students read and wrote poems about snow in humanities class with Allison. We then had a Snowetry Slam! Students bravely shared their poems and applauded each other’s efforts. We finished with a special trip to Dunkin Donuts for hot cocoa for everyone. It was a really warm and supportive morning for the 7th grade community. Judaic Studies This week students identified structural elements and used mishna tips they have learned to translate and discuss Mishna Aleph, Perek Aleph of Masechet Brachot. I know that sounds dry —...

Students were asked to choose a project, and then to create their own rubric for how it should be evaluated. The class produced incredibly accomplished work – take a look!   Math 7X finished a challenging unit, “Number Patterns,” this week and will be bringing home their unit test. I am happy to announce that everyone did really well! It should be signed and returned by Tuesday, February 27th, the latest. 7Y started a new unit this week, “Inequalities,” and have been learning to understand...

Judaic Studies 7th graders continued to explore chapter 11 of Bmidbar, focusing on the interaction between Moshe and God. What does Moshe really want from God? Does he get it? As part of our translation, we reinforced two grammar skills: ה’ השאלה and ו ההיפוך. The 7th graders participated in a Tu b’Shvat seder in class. The 17 century Kabbalist Isaac Luria came up with the idea of having a seder on Tu b’Shvat to explore kabbalistic ideas through eating different types of fruit and drinking 4 cups of wine / grape juice. Students were amazing at preparing the room...

Judaic Studies There were so many deep and insightful conversations in our JS classroom this week. I am in awe! Students translated the next 6 verses in Chapter 11 of Bmidbar/Numbers. They developed powerful questions about these verses, and shared interpretations with each other. The room was full of lively conversations about text!!! Here are some of the highlights: **The Torah says that Bnai Yisrael “cried to their families, each man in the door of his tent.” We looked at Rashi and Ibn Ezra’s ideas about why they cried to their families. As a class, we talked about the strangeness...

Science  Students this week started their unit about the properties of water. This week’s laboratory was hands on activities to discovery the concept of surface tension and cohesion. Students used pennies to see how many water drops can stay on top of the penny. Next they placed the penny in a soapy solution in order to discovery if this affects water surface tension. Then students conducted an experiment in order to discover the interaction of water with different liquids. We all had a great time learning these concept through hands on experimentation. Next week we will continue discovering properties of...
