Judaic Studies

7th graders are studying chapter 12 in the book of Bmidbar using a traditional text: Mikraot Gdolot. Students were given a challenge: find a way to portray a page of Mikraot Gdolot using their bodies!

The 7th graders went on to make their own pages of Mikraot Gdolot:

Math

7X started learning “Volumes and Surface Areas of Solids” this week and in this unit (unit 13), they will learn to sketch prisms, use nets to visualize their surface areas, find the volumes and surface areas of prisms, convert between cm2 and m3, and between cm3 and m3, and solve word problems involving volumes and surface areas of composite solids of prisms.

7Y started learning “Proportions” this week and in this unit (unit 14), they will learn to understand the scale factor of a scale drawing, draw a simple scale drawing, understand the scale of a map, calculate the actual distance between two points and the area of a region from a scale drawing, use ratio to solve problems involving scales, understand the ideas of direct proportion and inverse proportion, determine whether two quantities are in direct proportion or inverse proportion, and solve practical problems in direct proportion and inverse proportion.

Humanities

I loved helping students with the rough drafts of their personal narratives this week! They wrote funny, thoughtful, meaningful essays about events and experiences in their lives. I can’t wait to read the final versions next week! Today, we practiced the skill of visualization to bolster our reading comprehension. It was wonderful to see the creative and thoughtful pictures inspired by the first few paragraphs of Fahrenheit 451.

In history, we completed a test on chapter 19. Students worked diligently to study the material and to help one another study. I’m excited to continue guiding them through the initial stages of research for the Renaissance research paper.

Hebrew

This week in Hebrew students learned about stamps and languages. The week started with a short passage about the tower of babel, which we read and analyzed. Then we moved on to stamps. We read a passage detailing three different stamps that represented the Hebrew language. Then students drew out two of the described stamps and made their own, students later on presented the stamp they made and explained how it is connected to the history of Hebrew. 20180427_121712 20180427_121722 20180427_121725
