A Short, Snowy Week

Hello Fourth Grade Families!
Welcome back from Winter Break! It was a surprisingly short welcome back week, and we hope everyone enjoyed their Snow Day. We have exciting times coming up for the fourth grade, including our Martin Luther King Jr. Day performance on January 12 and the conclusion of our first Parsha in Judaics. As it is extremely cold out, please remember to send hats, gloves, scarves, and many layers with your child to school. Thank you!
Shabbat Shalom! -The Fourth Grade Team
PEEK AT NEXT WEEK:
  • Friday, January 12 – Delet P’Tucha, Open Door 8:15 am, MLK Day Tekes, 9:00 am
  • Monday, January 15 – MLK Day, NO SCHOOL

JUDAIC STUDIES with Aliza:
This week in Yahadut, we finished up the Age of Judges with the story of Samson and Delilah, which introduced us to the concept of “Hero’s Hubris”, a theme which will follow us through a few chapters in Ancient Israel’s history. We also transitioned into the Age of Kings with an introduction to the Books of Shmuel, and Israel’s first King, Saul.
In Chumash, we are getting closer and closer to finishing Parshat Toldot, and hope to conclude the Parsha next week. This is a big accomplishment and step for the fourth grade, as we are now moving from translating in the workbooks to reading and translating straight out of the Chumash. Shabbat Shalom!

GENERAL STUDIES with Miriam:
What a great start to 2018! Fourth graders have been working incredibly hard and certainly earner their snow day! In Math, we have begun our fractions unit. We spent the week revisiting some skills from 3rd grade and expanding into fourth grade level concepts. We will really pick up the pace next week. Social Studies and Reading have been entirely devoted to studying Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech”. We have looked closely at the text, especially at the part we will be performing in next week’s Tekes. Each fourth grader has gotten their lines and begun memorizing them. In writing, fourth graders spent the week getting trained on the Chromebooks. They are very independent now and ready to start working on more of their class and homework on the computers. Stay tuned for more information about technology usage and recommendations at home. Have a great weekend!
