HUMANITIES

Though this past week was filled with exciting special events, including the Lag B’Omer celebration and Kesher Day, we still managed to get a lot done in Humanities.

We began the week in History class by continuing to focus on the ancient Greek Olympics. Students presented their own “live TV broadcasts” about the games— broadcasting about major competitions, like discus and wrestling, and summarizing some important ancient ceremonies, like sacrifices to Zeus. In addition, we began learning about the various forms of government that existed in ancient Greece before democracy arose, including Monarchy, Oligarchy, and Tyrrany.

In Literature class, we participated in the “Wacky Word Olympics” to study for our Wordly Wise quiz. Our Olympics, which we hold before each Wordly Wise quiz, involves competition-style games that help the students review all the vocabulary words we’ve learned this year. The students love our friendly competitions, and they’re also able to practice good sportsmanship. Additionally, we continued reading and analyzing The Graveyard Book, with special focus on our theme of “Home.” We discussed questions like: “Is a house always a home? What makes us feel at home?” We’ll come back to these questions again as we read more about how our main character feels at home–somewhat strangely– in a graveyard.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Naomi

JUDAICS

This week we displayed our final Moshe and the Sneh Art and Explanation. Students were so impressed with each other’s hard work and insight. I look forward to sharing pictures of their work with you soon! We continued our unit about the Independence War in Israel. We looked at the phases of the war as well as the Jewish Israeli and Palestinian Israeli narrative of this time period. Students struggled to highlight facts on both sides and see what was missing from both sides. We will be continuing this unit next week.

Shabbat Shalom

HEBREW

Dear parents

This has been a productive week for 6th grade!

HaKbatza Aleph finished reading Leah Goldberg’s story “A Room For Rent”. The students are now working on developing a script for the story and acting it out.

HaKbatza Bet has been practicing using the past tense with basic verbs verbally and in writing. Next, we started reading texts and discussing the way we like to arrange our room.

I wish everyone a sunny weekend,
