5th Grade Week of 4/9

What a week! The sun is out, and we are ready to bring spring in! We had the pleasure of listening to Holocaust survivor Dori Katz as she told us the harrowing and inspiring story of her early childhood in Nazi-occupied Belgium. Please enjoy our updates below. Shabbat Shalom!

HUMANITIES: Another good week in Humanities! We continued studying and discussing our class text. We studied the components of a proper sentence. In Social Studies, we began our China Museum projects! The students are so excited to show you their projects on June 5th!-Tony

JUDAICS: In Judaics this week, we learned about the Holocaust and the different ways people resisted. We also had a guest speaker. The guest speaker told us how she hid with a Christian family during the Holocaust-Thank you, Jakob W.!

MATH: Fifth graders finished a unit on perimeters, area and surface area (unit 5) and will be starting a short unit on ratio (unit 6) from next week. In this unit, students will be learning to find ratio and equivalent ratios, and combine three quantities.-Kelly

SCIENCE: Students this week created custom roller coaster tracks using only card stock paper. This process of problem solving and refining could lead to frustration, however the class has develop a confidence in their abilities and mastered cooperative group work. This has allowed for the successful completion of these roller coaster. They had the opportunity to enjoy each others’ creation and celebrate these accomplishments together.-Mike
