5th Grade Week of 2/5

What a great week in 5th grade! Please enjoy the updates below, and have a great weekend!

Special announcement:

During the month of Adar, the month of Purim, it is a tradition to do things that make us happy. To get ourselves into the Purim spirit, all teachers, staff, and students should come to school in pajamas on Thursday, February 15th (Rosh Chodesh Adar – or the first day of the month of Adar)!  Please note, that the date on the physical school calendar says Friday, February 16th, but there has been a change of date.  Students must wear shoes or slippers. If your child has PE on Thursdays, please remember to send him/her with a pair of sneakers.

HUMANITIES: Students this week continued their study of Tuck Everlasting, including an amazing mock trial and our usual incredibly rich discussions. We continued our study of China in Social Studies, including studying legalism and the many sides and conflicts of the Dalai Lama and the Tibet-China conflict. Have a wonderful weekend!-Tony

MATHThis week, 5th graders continued to work with challenging word problems that involve multiplying a fraction by a fraction. They also started learning to divide a fraction by a whole number with practices of applying the skills to solving word problems.-Kelly

JUDAIC STUDIES: This week, we learned about Reuven, one of Joseph’s brothers. He cared about Joseph, and tore his clothes when he went to the pit and Joseph wasn’t there. We then watched a movie about the story and compared the differences between the two. It was a really great week in Judaics! Thanks, Laura!-Orly A.

SCIENCE: Students continued their exploration of circuits. They were introduced to “Little Bits”, an assortment of circuit parts in order to create custom devices. Their first device was a hand shaking buzzer. Next week they will continue to explore the different “Little Bits” and make other basic devices.-Mike

HEBREW:

J group
This week the J group finished their unit on “Time phrases”.
Next week we will start our new unit that focuses on the use of Infinitives and conjugation from one tense to another.
K group
This week the K group worked on editing and typing the biographies they wrote after interviewing one of their parents.-Yehuda

בנוסף, היה נעים לפגוש אותכם אתמול בגאלה.
