5th Grade Week of 2/16

Please enjoy the updates from our wonderful 5th grade classes, and have a wonderful break!

HUMANITIES: We concluded our formal study of Tuck Everlasting, and watched the 2002 film version. We discussed similarities and differences, and how directors make deliberate choices that authors do not. In Social Studies, we did a mini-research project in which students created slideshows about one of the dynasties we do not have time to study at length. Have a great break!-Tony

JUDAICS: “This week we continued learning about Joseph and the start of his time in Egypt. We watched a netflix version of the Joseph Story and wrote movie reviews. We saw the main differences between the Torah text and the movie. Joseph continues to be favored even as a slave and in Jail! We started to learn about Megilat Esther and learn some trope that is used for Purim. We went over the parts of the megillah that we will be reading at the tekes in school. We acted out some scenes and illustrated our school megillot. All in all it was a good week!” –Noa

MATH5th graders are coming close to finishing the unit on “Multiply and Divide Fractions”. Their unit test is likely to happen on Monday and Tuesday, March 5th and 6th. Have a wonderful break!-Kelly

SCIENCEStudents continued their exploration of “Little Bits” this week. They built custom flashlights and silly faces with light up eyes and a crazy tongue that worked using a pressure sensor. After our break we will start designing custom machines and await new discoveries. Students have been very creative during this unit.-Mike
