6th Grade News: 5/14-5/18/18

HUMANITIES Firstly, the students should be so proud of themselves for working through the ERBs this week! It’s not easy to sit through two mornings of tests, and regardless of score, enduring those testing hours is an accomplishment in itself. In Writing this week, students began working on their speeches for the ancient Greek Symposium on June 12th. Students will be speaking about their ancient Greece research topics and the artifacts they’re creating. 5th Grade Week of 5/14

What a week! Please enjoy our classroom updates below, and have a restful long weekend! Humanities: In Humanities this week, we continued our Book Club Units, and discussed important characters, settings, and events at the beginning of our various texts. We continued our China Museum Projects in Social Studies, and took a much needed break after ERB’s. Brooklyn Bridge – May 18th, 2018

Dear Third Grade Families, Our class had an exciting week, full of music and motion! Brooklyn Bridge Over the past few weeks, students have been learning all about bridges! In Science, they learned the best shapes to use in bridge building, how caissons work, and how cables are put together. In Social Studies, they learned how the Brooklyn Bridge was designed and created, all about the Roebling family who managed the building, and about the workers who did the physical labor.   After much patience, the students were able to visit the bridge itself! Week 34: Monday, May 14th – Friday, May 18th

Hebrew Dear parents, This week the 8th grade continued to edit and re-edit their autobiographies. The deadline for submitting the written version is Tuesday. Next week we will be using the autobiographies as a basis for making personal movies in Hebrew. This is a project that provides a nice opportunity for you to collaborate with the children, so feel free to start in the movie or just assist with production! May 14 – May 18

Math 7X finished learning the materials on Unit 13: Volumes and Surface Areas of Solids, and are working on their unit project, making a mobile of solids. This project is due at the beginning of class on Friday, May 25th. The following unit (unit 14) is on Proportions. Plants, Landforms, Chumash Practice, and Weaving

Chumash We are busy preparing for the Chumash Play next Thursday. Students have been memorizing lines and working on four songs and dances. This week we used the stage for the first time, and learned how to stand on stage and project. There is so much to prepare and remember as we get ready for next week’s performance, and the students are working super hard and helping each other. First Grade News: Week of May 14th

We finished up our poetry unit this week by revising and editing our poems. First grade poets read their poems aloud and listened for line breaks. They rewrote their poems and used watercolor paints to make them look like poems out of our poetry books. First graders were excited to display these poems at their siddur ceremony!   First grade mathematicians continued to practice addition with regrouping and even started subtraction with regrouping.
