5th Grade Week of 4/30

What a week! The sun finally came out, spring is here, and so much happened in 5th grade! We had a wonderful time at Prospect Park during Lag Baomer, and enjoyed hosting our families for Kesher Day. We are also looking towards the end of the year, including preparing the students for health class. 6th Grade News: 4/30-5/4/18

First . . . enjoy these photos from Lag B’omer in the part and kesher day!   HUMANITIES Though this past week was filled with exciting special events, including the Lag B’Omer celebration and Kesher Day, we still managed to get a lot done in Humanities. We began the week in History class by continuing to focus on the ancient Greek Olympics. April 30 – May 4

Advisory The 7th graders had a wonderful spring poetry reading! Students read their poems and listened supportively to each other to welcome the spring! Math 7X finished learning the materials on Unit 13: Volumes and Surface Areas of Solids, and will begin working on their unit project after the standardized tests on Tuesday, May 15th – Wednesday, May 16th. Until then, the classes will be spent reviewing for the test. Please remind students to bring calculators to class. 7Y finished learning the materials on Unit 14: Proportions. May 4th – Lag B’Omer and Kesher Day

Dear Third Grade Families, Just like that, we are now in May! We’ve had adventures this past week, both literally and figuratively, as well as in the classroom and outside. Kesher Day and Lag Ba’omer

Kesher Day General Studies Activity For Kesher day in the general studies class we began by talking about a growth mindset and how we can help ourselves when we are having strong feelings. We read the book Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg, a story about all the different mistakes that can happen on a piece of paper like tears, holes, spills, and stains, and different ways to fix them. First Grade News

We enjoyed a taste of warmth and sun this week! Please check out our photos of Lag B’Omer below.   This week we finished our class read aloud “Charlotte’s Web,” learned more about poetry, explored the 100 chart in Math, and observed millipedes and pill bugs in Science.     On Kesher Day, first graders showed off their math skills. They taught their special guests two different math games that explore place value.   In the Hebrew classroom, we spoke about Lag Ba’Omer. Hello Fourth Grade Families! What a special week it’s been! After three days of hard work in class, the fourth grade enjoyed a day playing games at prospect park as part of our celebration of Lag Ba’Omer! Our students showed their spirit with team colors and cheers, and demonstrated their respect for the earth and others by keeping their spots in the park clean and litter-free. Lag B’Omer and Kesher Day

Dear Kindergarten Families, We had a fun week in Kindergarten! We had lots of fun celebrating Lag B’Omer at our Yom Sports Field Day in Prospect Park! We also enjoyed welcoming our grandparents and special friends on Kesher Day! In Math, we began our unit on measuring. We learned about which objects are longer and shorter than each other and how to measure objects using cubes, paper clips, and rulers.  We also measured how tall we are now and compared it to our height in September – see our chart on the pictures below!
