5th Grade Week of 2/16

Please enjoy the updates from our wonderful 5th grade classes, and have a wonderful break! HUMANITIES: We concluded our formal study of Tuck Everlasting, and watched the 2002 film version. We discussed similarities and differences, and how directors make deliberate choices that authors do not. 6th Grade News: 2/12 – 2/16/18

HUMANITIES This week in History, we had a great time learning about the afterlife of ancient Egypt. After studying the magical and perilous journey that the “ba,” or soul, takes to the afterlife, we collaborated to create “travel guides” for travelers on this journey. On each page, students included descriptions of the various challenges that the ba could expect to face, as well as advice related to how to defeat these challenges. February 12th – February 16th

Judaic Studies Students completed amazing and creative projects to synthesize our learning from Chapter 11 of Bmidbar/Numbers. Students were asked to choose a project, and then to create their own rubric for how it should be evaluated. The class produced incredibly accomplished work – take a look!   Math 7X finished a challenging unit, “Number Patterns,” this week and will be bringing home their unit test. Week 23: Monday, February 12 – Friday, February 16

Advisory This week we led an activity in which we started having a conversation about ways to have debates/ arguments in effective and nonviolent ways. The students discussed what are the things that set them off in conversations and what steps we can they take in order to be able to listen to each other and express their opinions without hurting each other’s feelings. First Grade News: Week of February 12

We had a fun filled week in first grade. On Thursday we celebrated Rosh Chodesh Adar by wearing our pajamas to school!   First grade writers finished editing their teaching books this week. On Friday we had a classroom publishing party. First graders shared their books with each other and celebrated all of their hard work.   We learned about graphing this week. First graders learned how to record information using picture graphs, bar graphs, and tally charts. They worked in pairs to make their own graphs about their classmates. Happy Presidents’ Week!

Hello Fourth Grade Families! Thank you for coming to the 3rd and 4th grade talent show! The kids did an amazing job, and it meant so much to them to see so many people cheering them on as they demonstrated their skills. We had a wonderful time watching them, and at the Rosh Chodesh Adar parade that followed. Despite the upcoming break, 4th graders have been working hard at all of their subjects. Pajama Day, Lunar New Year and much more!

Dear Kindergarten Families, We had a very exciting week in Kindergarten! We welcomed in Adar with Pajama Day, a Talent show, and a parade! We even got to enjoy yummy treats and have snack with our buddies! In Math, we have been learning about counting and comparing numbers and sets of objects up to 100. We compared sets of various objects and decided how many more or less each stack had than the other.
